Antunes and Salmon ready for Round 3 at Townsville

03 Jul 2014

After coming away with second place at Phillip Island in Round 2 of the Australian GT Championship, Rod Salmon and I are off to Townsville this weekend, Friday 4 July 2014, for Round 3 on the Townsville Street Circuit, leading the Australian GT Trophy class with 118 points in the Skwirk.com.au V10 Audi R8 LMS GT3.

My preparation for the weekend has been solid, looking at inboard footage from previous years and also doing some simulator work with Rod to learn the track has been very useful. As soon as we get there we will be completing a track walk to help get further knowledge of the street circuit.

After driving the Lamborghini Gallardo FL2 GT3 in Japan, I am really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of the Skwirk.com.au Audi R8 LMS GT3 prepared by Melbourne Performance Centre (MPC). My experience over in Japan was amazing but I didn’t have very good luck. I love working with the MPC guys because they do such an amazing job putting a perfect car on the grid.

It’s going to be exciting in Townsville with the V8 Supercars this weekend. With all the racing I’ve done over the years around the world I’ve only ever once driven as a support category to the V8’s back when I was 16 years old competing in Formula Ford so I’m definitely looking forward to that part of the weekends experience.

We have practice and qualifying on Friday, one race on Saturday and two races on Sunday. Wish Rod and me luck as we look to extending our lead in the championship.
